Minimum Requirements:

  • Strong ability to read, interpret, and review structural steel drawings (GA, shop, fabrication, and erection drawings).

  • Solid understanding of steel structures design principles (connections, load paths, tolerances).

  • Knowledge of international codes & standards: AISC, ASTM, AWS, EN, ISO, BS.

  • Familiarity with welding symbols, WPS, NDT methods, and bolted connections.

  • Understanding of material specifications (steel grades, bolts, coatings, fireproofing).

  • Ability to identify design errors, clashes, and constructability issues.

Software & Digital Skills:

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD for drawing review and markups.

  • Working knowledge of Tekla Structures or similar steel detailing software.

  • Ability to review 3D models and BIM coordination drawings.

  • Comfortable using document control systems and drawing registers.

  • Basic skills in Excel for tracking comments, revisions, and inspections.

Quality & Inspection Skills:

  • Strong eye for detail and accuracy.

  • Understanding of quality control procedures and inspection workflows.

  • Ability to raise RFIs, NCRs, and technical comments clearly and professionally.

  • Knowledge of inspection & test plans (ITPs) related to steel fabrication and erection.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and verify construction drawings (shop drawings, fabrication drawings, erection drawings) for steel and metal structures.

  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, contracts, applicable codes, and standards (AISC, ASTM, EN, ISO, AWS, etc.).

  • Check dimensional accuracy, connection details, tolerances, and material specifications.

  • Confirm constructability and coordination with architectural, civil, mechanical, and electrical drawings.

  • Identify design clashes, omissions, or inconsistencies and raise technical queries (RFIs).

  • Verify materials (steel grades, bolts, welding consumables) match approved specifications.

  • Review welding details (WPS, weld symbols, NDT requirements).

  • Ensure corrosion protection systems are correctly specified (galvanizing, painting, coating systems).

  • Confirm compliance with safety and structural integrity requirements.

  • Coordinate with designers, fabricators, and site engineers to resolve drawing issues.

  • Support fabrication and erection teams with clarifications and revisions.

  • Approve or comment on drawings within agreed timelines.

  • Maintain drawing registers, revision control, and inspection records.

  • Prepare inspection reports, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and corrective action follow-ups.

  • Ensure as-built drawings reflect actual site conditions.
